13U & Senior Men: Hosts Sit Atop The Standings Going Into The Weekend

Ottawa, ON – Out west, Spruce Grove, Alberta, sits at 3-0 heading into Saturday and will look to clinch a spot in the medal round.  Another team in a similar situation as Spruce Grove is British Columbia, who also have a 3-0 record. 

In Windsor, Ontario, the hosts also sit with a 3-0 record and have put themselves in a great place heading into the weekend.  It has become a three-horse race with Ontario and British Columbia also holding identical 3-0 records. 

 

13U Peewee Western

Spruce Grove 9  South Central (MB1) 1

Host Spruce Grove scored six runs in the final two innings to run away with the win over South Central.  Laron Smith was a stud at the plate with three doubles and four RBI, while Colbey Klepper (Stony Plain, AB) came within one out of throwing a complete game.  Carter Wall (Winkler, MB) had two hits for his team.  

St. Albert (AB2) 17  Saskatoon (SK1) 7

St. Albert scored all of their runs in a three-inning span to end the game as they rolled past Saskatoon.  Kelton Libich displayed his power with a home run and six RBI, and rounded out the game by going 4/4.  Devon Farrel had two hits and two runs scored for Saskatoon. 

British Columbia 13  Sherwood Park (AB1) 5

Sherwood Park pulled within one run late, but BC quickly erased that by putting up a seven spot in the bottom half of the sixth inning to earn the win.  Derek Best (Surrey, BC) had his best performance today with two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored, while four other teammates also scored twice.  Clayton Loranger went had three hits for Sherwood Park. 

Spruce Grove 18  St. Albert (AB2) 4

Laron Smith leads the way offensively with four runs batted in, while the top of the order combined to score seven runs.  A total of five players have collectively scored all of Spruce Grove’s runs.

Regina (SK2) 24  North Winnipeg (MB2) 8

Senior Men

Windsor 4  New Brunswick(1) 1

Windsor used a full team effort to shut down New Brunswick by a 4-1 score.  On the mound, Steven Carter (Belle River, ON) and Brad Boussey (Amherstburg, ON) combined to give up only one run while Lazlo Horvath (Lasalle, ON) carried the offense with two RBI.  Jody Peterson (Fredericton, NB) went 3/3 in the loss. 

New Brunswick(2) 6  Alberta 3

New Brunswick used only one inning offense, scoring six runs in the fifth inning, to double up Alberta 6-3.  Dillon Doucette (Charlottetown, PE) had two hits – including a home run – and two RBI to pace the offense Jean-Francois Neveau (Miramichi, NB) pitched six and two-thirds innings to grab the win.  Jaret Chatwood (Red Deer, AB) went 2/2 in the defeat. 

Ontario 2  Nova Scotia 0

Jordan Petruska (Mississauga, ON) threw six innings of three-hit baseball to earn the win as Ontario would shut out Nova Scotia.  Matt DeKundy (Mississauga, ON) had his bat working in this game by going 3/3 with a RBI, while Brendan Emmett (Mississauga, ON) reached base three times. 

British Columbia 10  Alberta(2) 3

Tyler Willson (White Rock, BC), Graig Merritt (Maple Ridge, BC), and Sean Hotzak (Coquitlam, NC) would combine for nine hits, eight RBI, and three runs scored to lead BC past Alberta.  Mitch Hodge (Vancouver, BC) was strong on the mound coming within one out of achieving a complete game, but did pick up the win.

Windsor 4  Manitoba 3

Kriss Klassen (Leamington, ON) scored the game-winning run in the top of the tenth innings as Windsor got their second extra inning victory in as many days.  Zach Breault (Amherstburg, ON), rubber arm and all, went on to pitch all ten innings and struck out ten to earn a well-deserved win.  Kyle Nixon (Winnipeg, ON) also had an admirable performance, throwing eight innings for a no-decision. 

Alberta(1) 10  Newfoundland and Labrador 0

Alberta would score all ten runs in the first inning to quickly dispose of Newfoundland and Labrador in five innings.  Lance Romanchuk (Sherwood Park, AB) picked up two hits, including a home run, and five RBI in the inning to stand out offensively.  Dennis Northcott (Red Deer, AB) went all five innings to grab the win on the mound.
