13U Peewee Atlantic: Opening Day Comes To A Close

Ottawa, ON – It was a quiet Opening Day in Fredericton, New Brunswick, as only four games were played to kick off the 13U Peewee Atlantic Championships.  Teams that weren’t scheduled to play today will begin their tournament on Friday.

Friday will see double the amount of games played than what was scheduled on Thursday, meaning there will be a full day of baseball.  Remember that you can follow your team live via Pointstreak and watch the live stream of all games here.

The follow is a recap from today’s games:

Moncton (NB1) 10  Dartmouth (NS2) 1

After the game remained scoreless through the first three innings, Moncton would go on to pound out ten runs close out the game en route to the win over Dartmouth.  Cole Wright (Riverside, NB) was a stud at the plate going 4/4 with three RBI and coming just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.  Parker Dixon (Moncton, NB) and Conner Huckins (Grand Manan, NB) combined for another five RBI.  Garret Peterson (Timberlea, NS) allowed only one hit and struck out six in three and one-third innings pitched, but still took the tough loss.

Sherwood (PE2) 10  St. John’s (NL1) 1

Sherwood’s bats were hot from start to finish as they built an early 6-0 lead after three innings, and would cruise to the victory over St. John’s.  Five different Sherwood players contributed with at least two hits, including a perfect 3/3 day from Matthew MacAulay (Sherwood, PE).  Chandler Laporte (Cornwall, PE) would contribute on both side of the ball with two hits and two RBI as well as striking out seven on the mound.  Connor McGregor (Sherwood, PE) hit the game’s lone home run.

Tri-County (NS1) 19  Conception Bay North (NL2) 3

Tri-County came out hard and never looked back en route to the convincing 19-3 win over Conception Bay North.  The top of the order proved to be the Tri-County’s secret weapon as leadoff hitter Blake Trueman (Lower Sakville, NS), number two hitter Jaden Griffen (Lower Sakville, NS) and clean-up hitter and Lee Holeman (Lower Sakville, NS) combined for nine hits, eight RBI and seven runs in the romp.  Number three hitter Brooke Mingo (Truro, NS) scored twice.  Trent Drover (Upper Island Cove, NL) had two hits and two RBI in the losing effort.

Fredericton (Host) 8  Summerside (PE1) 7

Summerside made a furious comeback in their last at-bat by scoring three runs, but Jacob Gibson (Richibucto Road, NB) stranded the bases loaded to help his team come away with the win.  Samuel Beaulieu (Hanwell, NB) was a star in the game going a perfect 4/4 with a RBI and two runs scored, while leadoff hitter Riley Burt (Fredericton, NB) also scored twice and picked up two hits.  Coleton Perry (Summerside, PE) and Ben MacDougall (Summerside, PE) both picked up three hits in the loss.
