15U & 16U Bantams: Intensity Picking Up Heading Into The Weekend

Ottawa, ON – We have now at the halfway point of both bantam events, and there has been no shortage of entertaining baseball.  Pitching, defense, offense, you name it, there has been a little bit of everything.

At the 15 Bantam Boys event, Nova Scotia (4-0) and Ontario (3-0) currently lead their respective Pools and are well on their way to find a spot in the medal rounds.

One team looking to make their mark at the 16U Girls Invitational is 4-0 Québec who, today, was able to accomplish something quite remarkable en route to their current first place standing.

15U Bantam Boys

Manitoba 13  Prince Edward Island 6

PEI started off great with four runs in the top of the first inning, but their pitching could not keep up with Manitoba’s bats as Manitoba would score ten consecutive runs in the route.  Adam Robidoux (Binscarth, MB) and Morgan Geekie (Strathclair, MB) carried the offense a combined six hits and three RBI.  Kyle Pinksen (Kensington, PE) went 3/3 with two RBI in the loss.

New Brunswick 11  Newfoundland and Labrador 2

New Brunswick scored six runs in the fourth to increase their lead to 7-0, and they would hold on for the eventual 11-2 victory.  Declan Buckle (Dieppe, NB) picked up his seventh and eight RBI of the tournament, while Dominic Tardif (Dieppe, NB) scored three times.  Zachary Newman (Miramichi, NB) pitched three hitless innings and struck out seven to pick up the win.

Vaughan 4  Alberta 3

Host Vaughan scored all their runs early, and then used a combination of clutch pitching and defense to pick up their second win of the day.  Ryan Coughlin (Windsor, ON) was a two-way star in this game, grabbing two RBI while also earning the win on the mound.  He managed to pitch into the seventh inning and struck out seven.  Dylan Gates (St. Albert, AB) was equally strong throwing five one-hit innings for Alberta.

Nova Scotia 13  Saskatchewan 2

Nova Scotia provided consistent offense the whole way through the game en route to the easy win over Saskatchewan.  Ten different players contributed with at least one RBI, led by three from Nathan Livingston (Glace Bay, NS).  Meanwhile on the mound, Bailey MacDonald (Halifax, NS) struck out nine over six solid innings.

16U Girls Invitational

Québec 24  Manitoba 11

Six different Québec players had at least two RBI in a game that can only be described as a hitter’s paradise.  Catherine Labelle (St-Jerome, QC) recorded for hits and three RBI, while Julianne Caouette (Québec City, QC) scored on four separate occasions.  Sam Geekie (Strathclair, AB) was an offensive star for her team going 4/4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Ontario 12  British Columbia 2

Ontario scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull away from British Columbia and to grab the win.  Hailey Boyd (Port Dover, ON) and Jenna Hillman (Tecumseh, ON) combined for five hits and nine RBI to lead the Ontario offense.

Nova Scotia 7  Alberta 5

Alberta scored three runs in their last at-bat to make things interesting, but it wasn’t enough as Nova Scotia held on for the 7-5 win.  Raelea Nickerson (Lower Sackville, NS) picked two important RBI while Maria Roy (Hammonds Plains, NS) pitched into the seventh inning to record the win.  Kelsey Lalor (Red Deer, AB) had two RBI for her team in the loss.

Québec 27  Newfoundland and Labrador 3

Over a two game span, Québec was able score an unprecedented 51 runs, showing that their offense is an area other teams must take notice of.  Maggie Dalpe (Varennes, QC) was 4/4 with five RBI in the very convincing win.
