18U Worlds Breaking News: CANADA TO PLAY FOR GOLD!

Seoul, Korea- For the first time since 1991, Canada will play for gold at the IBAF 18U World Baseball Championship.

Canada has secured a spot in the gold medal game, which will take place tomorrow (September 8th) at 6pm local time (5am ET),regardless of today’s result against South Korea (2pm local time, 1am ET).

Based on current tournament standings and possible tie-breaking formulas, Canada can finish no worse than 2nd place in Round 2 standings which puts them into the gold medal game.

A win against South Korea today and Canada will finish in 1st place and be the home team for the gold medal game.

At this point, Canada leads the Round 2 standings with a 3-1 record as wins have come over Japan, USA and Colombia, while their only loss came at the hands of Chinese Taipei.

In 1991, in Brandon, MB, a group led by Stubby Clapp (Windsor, ON) and Jason Dickson (Miramichi, NB) defeated Chinese Taipei 5-2 in the gold medal game to give Canada their only gold medal at this event.

Canada won bronze in 1983, 1987, 1997 and 2006.
