A Light Schedule Kicks Off Morning Play During Day 2 for 13U and Senior Men

Ottawa, ON – Both the 13U Peewee Western’s and Senior Men’s National Championships had two games each to start on Friday morning.  Action will pick up during the afternoon where a total of twelve games will be played to mark the halfway point of the respective tournaments.

13U Peewee Western

Regina (SK2) 6  Sherwood Park (AB1) 4

Connor Sparkes (Saskatoon, SK) added some insurance with a RBI single in the seventh to put Regina up by two, and they would hang on for the win over Sherwood Park.  Sparkes finished the day with three hits and two runs scored to go along with that RBI, and also struck out nine batters in 5+ innings of work in the no-decision.  Eric Shattle had two RBI for Sherwood Park.

British Columbia 19  North Winnipeg (MB2) 9

BC got better as the game went along as they hammered North Winnipeg 19-9 in a game that can be characterized by one word: Offense.  Seven different players registered multiple hits, including four from Travis Selje (Surrey, BC) and Damiano Palmegiani (Surrey, BC).  Jalen Richard (Winnipeg, MB) had three hits and two RBI to guide his team offensively.

Senior Men

Ontario 4  Newfoundland and Labrador 1

John Broll’s (Mississauga, ON) two-run double in the second inning broke a scoreless tie, and Ontario would add on two more for the 4-1 victory.  Starter James Byrnes (Mississauga, ON) threw six solid innings to pick up the win while Scott Goosney (Pasadena, NL) threw a complete game in the loss.

British Columbia 2  Manitoba 1

Jesse Peters (Surrey, BC) scored the eventual game-winning run as BC hung on for a tight 2-1 win.  Ryan Eiswerth (Surrey, BC) was spectacular on the rubber going all seven innings and striking out eight batters.  Derek Chapman (Brandon, MB) had two of his team’s three hits in the loss.
