Baseball Canada Championships: Competition continues on Day 2

OTTAWA – Play continued Friday at the three ongoing Baseball Canada Championships. Teams are looking to improve their records in day 2 of the tournaments as playoff games are approaching.

At the 13U National Championship in Repentigny, QC, Ontario 3 and British Columbia sit atop pools A and B respectively both with 2-0 records.

Ontario and Québec lead Pool A at the 15U Championship in Vaughan, ON both with 2-0 records while Manitoba sits atop Pool B having won 3 in a row.

Two games were played at the Senior Men Championship in Chatham, NB before games were delayed due to rain. As of now, British Columbia leads Pool A while New Brunswick leads Pool B, both with 2-0 records. When games resume, you can watch all of the action live by clicking here.

13U National Championship

Ontario 9 Saskatchewan 8 – Ontario came back from a 6-0 deficit to top Saskatchewan 9-8. Jaden Hums (Newmarket, ON) came home to score twice and picked up 2 RBIs in the game. Reliever Ethan Pollard (Brampton, ON) earned the win allowing only 1 run on 3 hits and a walk over 3 innings on the mound while striking out 4.

British Columbia 3 Ontario (ON2) 1 – Starting pitcher Carlin Dick (Abbotsford, BC) pitched 4.1 shutout innings allowing 4 hits and striking out 3 to earn the win for BC. Carter Clark (Coquitlam, BC) doubled and drove in a run to contribute to BC’s offensive production.

15U Championship

Alberta 9 Saskatchewan 1 – Jack Marlin (Calgary, AB) went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple driving in 3 wins to help Manitoba to the win. Kye Seitz (Okotoks, AB) allows only 2 hits and 3 walks striking out 9 over 5.1 innings while not giving up a single earned run.

PEI 8 Nova Scotia 5 – Gabriel Penalver (Sherwood, PE) went 2 for 3 and 3 RBIs leading PEI’s offensive production. Ethan Francis (Misouche, PE) earned the win allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk over 4 innings on the mound while striking out 5.

Manitoba 16 Newfoundland 2 – Matthew Besant (Winnipeg, MB) tossed 2.2 hitless innings allowing only 1 walk and striking out 3 to earn the win. Adam Senden (Winnipeg, MB) went 2 for 2 with a double and 2 RBIs while crossing the plate once to contribute to the victory.

Ontario (ON1) 20 Vaughan 3 – Ethan Hammond (Oakville, ON) held Vaughan to 2 hits over 2.2 innings striking out 3 to earn the win. Shunta Koyama doubled driving in 2 runs and scored 3 times in the game.

Québec 8 British Columbia 2 – Luis-Armando Gutierrez-Cyr (Montréal, QC) went 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBIs in the win. Reliever Philippe Breton (Repentigny, QC) earned the victory for Québec shutting out the opposition over 2.2 innings allowing only 2 hits while striking out 2.

Senior Men Championship

New Brunswick 6 Saskatchewan 3 – Aaron Johnson (Sussex, NB) went 3 for 4 with a double and came across to score to help New Brunswick’s offensive production. Jordan Stevenson (New Glasgow, PE) earned the win allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks over 5 innings on the mound.

British Columbia 7 Nova Scotia 3 – Chris Head’s (New Waterford, NS) 2-run homerun was not enough to match BC’s offense in the loss. Starter Alex Reid (Kamloops, BC) earned the win for BC allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks over 6 innings of work.
