Boucher wins Sport Québec Coach of the Year

OTTAWA- Baseball Canada would like to congratulate long-time National Team Pitching Coach Denis Boucher on being name ‘Team Sport’ Coach of the Year at the Sport Québec Awards held Tuesday in Montréal.

In 2012, Boucher was the Pitching Coach for Canada’s World Baseball Qualifier entry in Regensburg, Germany. Canada went 3-0 at the tourney with two wins over host Germany and one win over Great Britain.

The Lachine, QC native joined the National Team coaching staff as the Pitching Coach in 2003 for the Americas Olympic Qualifier in Panama where Canada gained a berth in the 2004 Athens Olympics. Boucher was also the Pitching Coach for Canada at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and had the same roll with Team Canada for the 2006, 2009 and most recently, the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

In 2011, Boucher coached the pitching staff that led Canada to the bronze medal at the IBAF World Cup in Panama and later won a gold medal at the Pan Am Games in Mexico.

Boucher spent parts of four seasons (1991-1994) with the Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Indians and his
hometown Montréal Expos. Boucher’s Expos debut drew over 40,000 fans to the Olympic
Stadium in Montréal and saw 192 members of the media attend. Boucher is one of three
Canadians to play for both the Blue Jays and Expos.

Boucher is currently the Canadian Scout for the New York Yankees and remains active in amateur baseball coaching his sons in Lachine.
