Caraquet Minor Baseball gets RBI Approved status!

OTTAWA – The Caraquet Minor Baseball Association has joined Baseball Canada’s growing list of associations that meet the Reaching Baseball Ideals Program’s national standards. Caraquet Minor Baseball is now the fifth association in New Brunswick and the 42nd in the country to receive RBI approved status.

The association has been around for almost 30 years now and serves approximately 75 players ranging from 5 to 18 years old. According to the association’s treasurer Stéphane Cormier, having coaches and volunteers properly trained has long been a priority for Caraquet Minor Baseball and the RBI program helps make sure of this.

“Cooperation with neighboring associations is essential in developing the sport of baseball in northern New Brunswick,” said Cormier. The RBI Program helps ensure that core common criteria is being applied throughout local baseball associations.

When it comes to the players themselves, “RBI certification ensures that players are coached by properly trained volunteers and umpired by properly trained officials,” added Cormier. “It also ensures that players are protected by safety standards such as the Baseball Canada pitch counts we follow.”

“The certification shows the effort that the association has put in over the last few years. The success of our teams and the development of umpires, coaches and volunteers have contributed to the growth of the sport in the Caraquet region.”

The association believes that becoming RBI approved is the first step in properly developing their association and they plan on continuing to follow this same path.
