OTTAWA- The 6th Annual Scotiabank Vancouver Canadians Hot Stove Luncheon took place late last month in Vancouver that saw a very special cheque donation to our Women’s National Team program.
The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation generously donated $10,000 to the women’s program that saw National Team members Amanda Asay, Niki Boyd and Clair Eccles on hand to accept the donation from Canadians Assistant General Manager Allan Bailey.
The funds will help to offset costs for the program as early as this coming season as the Women’s National Team sets its sight on the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup in Busan, South Korea in September. In addition to the Women’s National Team, the Canadians Baseball Foundation also provided support to the University of British Columbia baseball program and Challenger Baseball.
“We’re very grateful to the entire Canadians organization and their foundation for this extremely kind donation to our Women’s National Team,” said Baseball Canada President Ray Carter. “The Vancouver Canadians are a first class organization who truly care about baseball in Canada from the grassroots to the professional level.”
Baseball Canada’s Women’s National Team program began in 2004 and to date Canada has won four medals (three bronze, one silver) in six World Cup events. Last summer, women’s baseball was included in the Pan American Games sport program for the first time ever and Canada came away with a silver medal on home soil after falling to the United States in the gold medal contest.
“On behalf of my coaching staff and all of my players, we are very thankful for this donation from the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation,” added Women’s National Team Manager André Lachance. “Our National Team program has come a long way since 2004 so to receive support like this is truly special and exciting for us going forward.”
