Daryl Andrews to represent Canada in MLB Fan Cave during WBC

OTTAWA- World Baseball Classic Inc. announced today that Daryl Andrews of Kitchener, ON will represent Canada in the MLB Fan Cave during the upcoming (March 2-19) World Baseball Classic.

"I am so excited to represent Team Canada in the MLB Fan Cave during the upcoming World Baseball Classic,” said Andrews in a WBCI News Release. “This experience is a dream come true and I cannot believe that I will get the opportunity to combine my passion for baseball, with my pride for Canada. Go Canada Go!"

Andrews, 30, is a youth correctional facility relief worker and has been a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays since his childhood. Andrews was at Rogers Centre in Toronto in 2009 to cheer on Canada at the last WBC and has visited more that 15 MLB ballparks and seen more than 100 MLB games.

Each of the 16 participating countries in the WBC will have a representative in the Fan Cave when the tournament begins. As teams are eliminated from the WBC their representatives will also be asked to leave the Fan Cave. The fans of the final four teams will travel to the Championship Round in San Francisco, CA to watch their National Team compete for the World Baseball Classic Championship.

The MLB Fan Cave is a unique event space mixing baseball with music, popular culture, media, technology and art. Supported by MLB Advanced Media, it also provides baseball fans with a constant flow of online video and conversation via social media. With more than 1.2 million combined followers from 129 countries and territories on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, the MLB Fan Cave has built a large community of baseball fans from around the world. The Cave Dwellers will have a chance to interact with these worldwide baseball fans during the 2013 World Baseball Classic. The official World Baseball Classic social media channels on Facebook and Twitter, which have seen tremendous growth since the Qualifying Round, will provide additional outlets for the Cave Dwellers to connect with fans around the globe.

More than 400 celebrity visitors, including nearly 200 current Major Leaguers as well as musicians, actors, former players and others, have visited the MLB Fan Cave since its launch in 2011. They have participated in more than 500 online videos, which are available at www.MLBFanCave.com, for fans to share via social media. Some of the biggest stars in baseball have visited the MLB Fan Cave, including members of the 2013 World Baseball Classic provisional rosters John Axford (Team Canada), Miguel Cabrera (Team Venezuela), Robinson Cano (Team Dominican Republic), Adrian Gonzalez (Team Mexico) and David Wright (Team USA).
