US takes final summer training camp game
Sunday, July 6, 2003
ATLANTA,GA-- The final game in Atlanta was deemed to be a good one coming in to the match up with both squads getting one step closer to the Qualification Tournament in Curacao. After a dropping the first game of the doubleheader by the score of 6-4, Canada was seeking to rebound from the tough outing and take the last Georgia Dugout Club series game. However the US Junior National Team had other plans winning the game 9-1.
Billy Butler took care of early business for the US smoking a solo shot to right center off Canada's Erick Nadon (Longueuil, QC) in the bottom of the second. That one spark helped the US put 2 more runs on the board.
Canada bats got shut down throughout the game as pitcher Daniel Bard worked the mound for 5 innings giving up only 3 hits to Canada. Their only run came in after Nicholas Bleau (Mercier, QC) hit a single bringing in Dillon O'Krane (Langley, BC) in the top of the 6th inning.
This marks the end of the summer training camp for the Canadian Junior National Team. Once the official roster is determined, the top 20 players will travel for a 3 game series to Cuba, before arriving to Curacao for the World Qualification Tournament.
