First Week of the National Championships finish off with one inning on Monday

All of the medals were presented at the Baseball Canada National Championships in Québec City with the exception of one, the gold medal of the Baseball Canada Cup which was awarded on Monday morning.

The game was suspended on Sunday night due to rain in the top of the seventh inning in the gold medal matchup between British Columbia and Québec with a runner on first base and no outs and a 5-0 lead for B.C.

British Columbia added a run in the top of seventh as Andrew Young of Crofton, B.C. came in to score to make it 6-0.

Québec was unable to create any offense in the bottom half of the seventh inning against Paul Barton of Qualicum Beach, B.C., who only allowed a walk with two strikeouts as British Columbia captured the Baseball Canada Cup championship.

Before the game was suspended on Sunday, British Columbia’s starting pitcher, Stosh Wawrzasek of Langley, B.C. was completely dominant over the Québec hitters.  Over six innings pitched, Wawrzasek only allowed three hits and three walks with 15 strikeouts and was awarded the championship’s Top Pitcher Award.

The Baseball Canada National Championships will continue on August 16 with the Pee-Wee Boys, Bantam Boys, Midget and Junior championships.
