Canada is coming off a 4th place finish at the last IBAF 18U World Championship which was held in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 2010. The last time Canada medalled at this event came back in 2006 when a squad led by Brett Lawrie and Phillippe Aumont collected the bronze medal in Cuba.

Canada's lone gold medal came on home soil when the event took place in Brandon, Manitoba in 1991 when a team that featured the likes of Stubby Clapp and Jason Dickson took home the gold medal.
