Baba Joins Baseball Canada Team
Jim Baba has accepted the position as Manager,
Baseball Operations with Baseball Canada. A 20-year veteran in amateur sport, Baba
comes to Baseball Canada following 10 years at Saskatchewan Baseball, currently as
Director of Operations and previously as Technical Director, following nine years as Parks
& Recreation Director, Town of Kindersley, SK. Baba holds a degree in Physical
Education from the U. of Sask. Baba brings a wealth of technical knowledge including
Level 3 MCC, serving as a coach with Baseball Canada's teams for 6 years, and as Head
Coach, Senior Team in 1995 & 1997.
In his role as Manager, Baseball Operations,
Baba will lead the development of our technical programs and events. The MBO is
responsible for the overall management of Baseball Canada's technical programs including
the athlete, coach, event and umpire development programs.
Baba starts his position at Baseball Canada
offices in Ottawa, effective on March 1, 2000. His wife, Penny, and their three
children will remain in Saskatoon, SK, moving to Ottawa following the completion of the
school year.
Baba replaces Kevin Briand, former Manager,
Baseball Operations, who left his position with Baseball Canada in December 1999 to accept
a position as Manager, Amateur Baseball Relations, with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Baseball Canada is the aggregate of the
Provincial / Territorial Baseball Associations working together to further baseball in
Canada. A member of the Canadian Olympic Association, we field Canada's baseball
teams at Olympic and Pan American Games. The International Baseball Federation
sanctions Baseball Canada's Teams to represent Canada in world competition. The
Government of Canada recognizes Baseball Canada as the sole governing body for baseball in
Canada, eligible for federal funding and with charitable status.
