Juniors rained-out after seven innings

ORLANDO-The Junior National Team and Washington Nationals only managed to play seven innings at ESPN Wide World of Sports today before rain and lightning forced the game to be called.

At the time the game was cancelled the juniors were on the wrong end of a 19-1 score.

Summary

-Dayton Dawe (London, ON) started on the mound and gave-up two runs (one earned) in three innings of work. Dawe allowed three hits and two walks and also struck out one batter.

-The Nats opened the scoring in the top of the first on a lead-off home run.

-The juniors recorded two hits on the afternoon, a single from Jamar Burnette (Toronto, ON) in the fourth inning and a lead-off double from Bryan Saucedo (Toronto, ON) in the sixth.

-Saucedo advanced to third base on a wild-pitch and scored when Daniel Pinero (Toronto, ON) grounded out.

-The Nats broke the game open with a five-run top of the fourth off JNT pitcher Clayton Isherwood (Van Anda, BC). The five-hit inning included two doubles and a triple.

-After scoring a run in the fifth to make the score 8-1, the Nats added six runs in the fifth and another five in the seventh with Wyle Cunningham (Red Deer, AB) on the mound. Cunningham struck out two batters in 1 1/3 innings.

-The Washington offence accounted for twenty hits, while the JNT committed four errors.

Notes: The juniors will wrap-up spring training tomorrow at ESPN Wide World of Sports when they take on the Detroit Tigers at 10am ET…It is expected that Ryan Kellogg (Whitby, ON) will start on the mound…The Spring Training Camp is an important step in the selection process as 20 players will be chosen in August to represent Canada at the IBAF 18U World Baseball Championship in Seoul, South Korea August 30th- September 8th.
