Juniors shutout by Braves

ORLANDO-A solo home run in the second inning was all the offence the Atlanta Braves prospects needed as they blanked the Junior National Team 8-0 in Fall Instructional League action.

The homer came with two-out in the top of the second off JNT starter Cal Quantrill (Port Hope, ON) who otherwise had a solid outing on the mound.

Quantrill tossed three innings and struck out two while allowing three hits and two walks.

The juniors didn’t help themselves in the in the fourth as two walks given up by reliever Adam Jafine (Toronto, ON) and two errors led to another Braves run.

Troubles continued for Jafine and the juniors in the fifth as a lead-off double, wild-pitch and ground out brought in one run and two errors and a triple brought in two more runs to make it 5-0.

Jafine allowed four runs, but didn’t get much help from his defence as only one of those runs was earned during his three innings of work.

Offensively, the juniors could only muster two hits with a double coming off the bat of Gareth Morgan (Toronto, ON) and a single from Jake Lumley (Windsor, ON).

Connor Noble (Vancouver, BC) tossed a scoreless seventh frame before the Braves scored on an RBI single in the eighth and added two more in the ninth on a walk and two base-hits that came with two out.

Noble managed to strikeout five Braves during his three inning outing.

Notes: The juniors will travel to Dunedin tomorrow where they will take on the Toronto Blue Jays prospects at the Bobby Mattick Complex at 1pm ET…Kurtis Horne (Sooke, BC), Brodie Harkness (Bowmanville, ON) and Nathan Borges (Brooklin, ON) are all scheduled to throw three innings.
