Lawrie and Bautista headline Blue Jays to face Junior National Team

St. Petersburg, FL-Jose Bautista, Major League Baseball’s 2010 and 2011 Home Run King will be in the Toronto Blue Jays line-up on Tuesday (1:05pm ET start) at Al Lang Field when the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Junior National Team as part of the St. Petersburg International Baseball Series.

Bautista, the 2010 and 2011 Hank Aaron Award Winner and MLB All-Star, will be joined by former Junior National Team player and rising MLB star Brett Lawrie (Langley, BC), catcher JP Arencibia who clubbed 23 home runs in 2011 and set a Blue Jays club record for most home runs by a catcher, and slugger Adam Lind who’s hit 23 or more home runs in each of the past three seasons.

Canadian Trystan Magnuson (Vancouver, BC) will also make the trip over from the Blue Jays Spring Training home in Dunedin along with fellow 40-man roster players Chad Beck and Danny Farquhar.

The Junior National Team is participating in the St. Petersburg International Baseball Series for the second consecutive year and features the top 18 and under players the country has to offer. The program is renowned for producing MLB draft picks each year including the likes of Lawrie, 2006 American League MVP Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins, 2004 National League Rookie of the Year Jason Bay of the New York Mets and arguably the greatest Canadian baseball player of all-time and 1997 National League MVP Larry Walker.

Tuesday will be declared ‘Canada Day’ at Al Lang Field by St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster as Canada’s top youngsters take on Canada’s only Major League Baseball team.

Gates will open at 11:30am, just in time to watch the Blue Jays take batting practice.
