Matt Stairs sets MLB career record for pinch-hit home runs

Matt Stairs (Fredericton, NB) clocked the 21st pinch-hit home run of his career, setting a new Major League Baseball record.

Stairs' eighth-inning, two-run blast came for the San Diego Padres in tonight's 6-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Stairs was a backup outfielder and pinch hitter for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008 and 2009.

The previous record holder was Cliff Johnson.

Stairs is best remembered for his game-tying home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the 2008 National League Championship Series.

Notes: Stairs is in his 18th MLB season and has played for 12 different MLB teams. Stairs participated as  member of Team Canada in the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classic and he was also participated in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea
