Morneau to start in All Star Game

OTTAWA- Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau (New Westminster, BC) will start at first base for the American League in the All-Star Game taking place in Anaheim on July 13th. Morneau was voted in as the starter by the fans making it the first time he has started in an All Star Game.

“To get voted in by the fans is special," said Morneau in an interview with MLB.com.

The 2006 American League MVP will be participating in his 4th consecutive All Star Game. Morneau is having an MVP type season thus far hitting a staggering .344 (which leads the majors) with 17 homeruns and 55 RBI’s.

Morneau was the lone Canadian named to the All Star Game on Sunday although there is another opportunity for fans to get another Canadian into the game. Joey Votto (Etobicoke, ON) is on the ballot which will determine the final All-Star selection for each league.
