National Championships: Action opens at three events!

DQ® 13U National Western Championship  

In Brandon, Manitoba, defending champions BC, represented by White Rock, got off to a hot start using 14 hits including a 3-for-3 performance from Kaden Meeker to defeat Oildome (MB1), 13-3.

In a high scoring affair Red Deer’s Dominic Skjonsberg homered while Saskatoon received long balls from Oakland Flodell and Adam Beamin in what turned out to be a 20-12 decision for the kids from Alberta.

In late scores, Regina got by St. Alberta, 6-5, where Kyan Hamilton hit a two-run inside-the-park homer and Host Brandon beat North Winnipeg, 12-2, in an all-Manitoba battle that featured a three-run homer from Skylar Ramsay.

18U

Seven games were played on day one with both Ontario entries combining for three wins.

Defending champions, the London Badgers, got 5.2 innings from Connor Ambrogio and three RBI from Judd Walker to defeat New Brunswick, 9-1. Later in the day, they used a two RBI performance from Alex Pettipiece to beat Saskatchewan, 5-3.

Nicolas Vachon tossed five scoreless innings to lead Québec to a 5-0-shutout win over BC, while 

Cameron Hahnfeld’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave Etobicoke a 2-1, walk-off win over Alberta as it took an extra frame to decide this one.

Following the opening ceremonies Liam Froment tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts to lead Alberta over host Fort McMurray, 3-2, while Martin Gisiger’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave Manitoba a 5-4, extra innings win over Etobicoke.

21 Men’s

In St. Thomas, Ontario, the only completed game of the day saw Ryan Kula drive in six runs with a 5-for-5 day at the plate including two doubles and a triple to lead Mississauga North over Newfoundland & Labrador, 20-2.

Oshawa was leading New Brunswick, 4-0, before rain hit causing the game to be suspended.
