National Championships: Fredericton, Capital District to meet for gold

It will be Fredericton and Capital District battling for the gold medal tomorrow at the Dairy Queen Canada 13U National Atlantic Championships after both squads were victorious in their respective semi-final match-ups today in Summerside PEI.

Tomorrow’s bronze medal game will feature Halifax taking on Kennebecasis Valley.

Semi-Finals

Fredericton (NB1) 7, Halifax (NS1) 3

Caleb Rice struck out five batters over 5.1 innings of work to pick up the win While Tyler Stewart and Owen Blacquier each had a hit and drove in a run to lead Fredericton to a 7-3 win over Halifax. Sam Gallagher came out of the Fredericton bullpen in the sixth and provided 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to preserve the win. 

Capital District (PE1), Kennebecasis Valley (NB2)

Graysen LaPorte allowed just two hits and struck out twelve batters over five innings of work, and also drove in two runs at the plate to lead Capital District to a 13-0 win over Kennebecasis Valley. Capital District struck for three runs in the first before taking control of the game with a seven-run third inning.

Earlier today, St. John’s defeated Mount Pearl 18-2 to finish seventh while Truro beat host Summerside, 10-7, to claim fifth.
