Pan Am women's baseball hopefuls begin camp on Monday

OTTAWA-Thirty-two players will be in Toronto from May 11-17 looking to earn one of eighteen available roster spots on the Women’s National Team.

Team Manager André Lachance and his coaching staff will use the camp to choose the 18 players that will represent Canada at the Pan Am Games in Ajax from July 20-26. Women’s baseball will be appearing at the 2015 Pan Am Games for the first time ever.

“It’s exciting for women’s baseball and our national team program,” said Lachance. “The opportunity to be a part of this historic event and the fact that the tournament will be played in Canada is very exciting so I’m anticipating a very competitive (selection) camp in Toronto.”

After physical testing Monday morning at Rogers Centre, players will be split into two sides (Canada Red and Canada Black) for an inter-squad game in the afternoon.

The squads will remain intact for the week with each team playing a five-game exhibition schedule from May 12-16.

The final 18-player roster will be announced on Sunday, May 17th.
