This week's Baseball Canada Championships preview

OTTAWA – Last week’s Baseball Canada Championships came to a close on Sunday and three more are already set to get underway tomorrow, Thursday, August 20th. Five of nine events have been decided with gold medals going to Québec at the 16U Girls, 18U and 21U championships, to Ontario at the Senior Women and to the host Coquitlam-Moody at the 13U National Western.

This week’s events will be held in three different provinces. Repentigny, QC will be hosting the 13U National Championship. The 15U Championship will be hosted in Vaughan for the 7th straight year. Lastly, Chatham, NB will be hosting Baseball Canada’s Senior Men Championship.

13U National Championship

Brampton, ON won last year’s championship held on London, ON in a dramatic 11-10 walk-off win over Abbotsford, BC. Three Ontario teams will be in Repentigny, QC looking to make it back to back for the province. The tournament will host a total of ten teams fighting for a medal. Competition is scheduled to kick off Thursday morning at 8:30am ET with Atlantic (PEI) taking on Ontario (ON3). Click here to follow the games live via Pointstreak.

15U Championship

This year will be the seventh consecutive 15U Championship held in Vaughan, ON. 11 teams will be competing for a medal. An Ontario team has won gold at 5 of the 6 Championships hosted by Vaughan including their host team in 2011. Last year’s winner was Mississauga, ON who topped New Brunswick by a score of 8-5. The first game of this year’s event is scheduled for 8:30am ET with Manitoba facing PEI. Certain games will be telecasted by Rogers TV on a delayed basis. Senior Men Championship

Ten teams will be in Chatham, NB for the Senior Men Championship. The Langley Blaze of British Columbia won gold at last year’s event. A home run derby will be held at 6:00pm ADT on Wednesday at Ironmen Field before competition kicks off on Thursday morning at 10:00am between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
