Three National Championships to begin August 18th!

OTTAWA- With three Baseball Canada National Championship tournaments already in the books, three more are set to begin tomorrow as the championship season kicks into high gear!

Here’s a preview of what’s in store for baseball fans this week!

16U Girls Invitational

After a seven-year run of hosting the 15U Boys National Championship, Vaughan, Ontario will welcome some of the top 16 and under female players in the country for the 16U Girls Invitational. A nine-team field will compete for a gold medal with teams representing British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, two reps from Québec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador heading to Vaughan. Québec and Ontario have met for the gold medal in each the past five years with Québec entering the event as the two-time defending champions. Five games are set for tomorrow at fields one and two at the Vaughan Grove Complex with the opening ceremonies slated for 4pm ET.

18U

Sherbrooke, Québec will play host to the 18U National Championship for the second consecutive year with representatives from all ten provinces taking part, while Québec will have two squads competing to form an 11-team field. The event has been held in “La belle province” each year since 2012 and promises to be a competitive event. In 2015, Québec topped the North Shore Twins, representing BC, in the gold medal contest, while New Brunswick claimed the bronze medal. Sites in Sherbrooke (Amedée Roy), Magog (Parc de l’Est) and Coaticook (Julien Morin) will hosts games starting tomorrow with opening ceremonies in Sherbrooke at 7:30pm ET before the two Québec squads face off against one another.

21U

The 21U Men National Championship returns to Regina, Saskatchewan with eight teams set to square off to determine medal winners. Seven provinces representing BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia will join host Regina to make up the eight-team field with the majority of games to take place at Regina’s Optimist Park. Québec enters the event as the two-time defending champ and has won three out of the past four events. Opening ceremonies are set for tomorrow at 6:30pm CT before host Regina entertains Manitoba in the evening contest.
