Tri County Captures Gold At The 2013 13U Peewee Atlantic Championships; Moncton Settles For Bronze

Ottawa, ON – Team Fredericton was on home soil and looking to repeat as champions, but it wasn’t meant to be as Tri County captured a 2-0 victory to take home the Gold.  In the Bronze medal game, Moncton used a wild comeback to shock Sherwood and take home the Bronze.  You’ll have to read it to believe it.

Tri County (NS1) 2  Fredericton (Host) 0

Brandon MacKeigan (Lower Sakville, NS) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run single to lead his team to a 2-0 win and the 2013 13U Peewee Atlantic Championship.  That at-bat was MacKeigan’s only one of the game, and he stepped up when his team needed him the most. 

On the mound, starter Jaden Griffen (Lower Sakville, NS) was dominant over five and one-third innings, allowing no hits and striking out eleven in the process.  The win capped off a MVP performance from Griffen throughout the tournament, as he finished with twenty-five strikeouts in ten innings as well belting seven home runs in his team’s five games. 

Josh Tardiff (Fredericton, NB) through five shutout innings for the hosts, but it was enough. 

 

Bronze Medal Game

Moncton (NB1) 6  Sherwood (PE2) 5

Ben Druet (Moncton, NB) capped of his team’s wild comeback with a game-winning single to take home the Bronze medal.  Down 5-3 heading into their last at-bat, the team rallied to score three runs in the thrilling victory.  Luc Roy (Cocagne, NB), Cole Wright (Riverview, NB), and Patrick McWilliam (Moncton, NB) all had multi-hit games to lead the offense while six different players drove in runs.  Gabriel Penalver (Sherwood, PE) had ten strikeouts on the mound for Sherwood in the heartbreaking loss.
