WNT Claim Fifth Place at World Cup

Maracay, Venezuela- Martine Nadeau (Québec City, QC) was solid on the mound and the Women’s National Team used some timely hitting to beat Cuba 5-1 in the 5th place game at the Women’s World Cup. The game was called during the 5th inning because of rain and Canada was awarded the victory

Canada got on the board in the bottom of the 1st inning when Nicole Luchanski (Edmonton, AB) doubled to lead off the inning and she would later score on a single from Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC).

In the 2nd inning Canada would add 1 more run, but they really took command of the game in the 3rd inning when they would plate 3 more runs. The highlight of the 3 run 3rd inning was a triple hit by Stéphanie Savoie (La Pocatiére, QC) which scored Asay. Savoie would later score a run of her own in the inning which came on a Cuban throwing error.

Cuba would score 1 run in the 5th to cut the lead to 4, but Nadeau shut them down the rest of the way to earn the win.
