OTTAWA-The Women’s National Team will be a part of history next month when they participate in the Pan Am Games in Ajax as women’s baseball will be part of the sport program for the first time ever.
Prior to the Pan Ams Games, set for the President’s Choice Ajax Pan Am Ballpark from July 20-26, the team will take their show on the road for an exhibition tour with stops in Québec City, Ottawa and Cornwall before heading to Toronto for a pair of final tune-up games.
From July 9th -12th the team will participate in the Québec City Midget Tournament for a minimum four games including three games at Municipal Stadium. From there, the 18-player roster will head to Ottawa for a tilt against the Ottawa Expos from the National Capital Baseball League on July 13th at Ottawa Stadium before travelling to Cornwall on July 14th for a match-up against the Cornwall River Rats Senior club. The squad will make their way to Toronto on July 15th and play Puerto Rico on July 17th before facing the United States on July 18th.
“Our exhibition schedule will provide our team a good test against quality competition that will help us prepare for the Pan Am Games and hopefully help replicate the environment we will be exposed to in Ajax,” said Manager André Lachance. “The exhibition schedule will also provide an opportunity to showcase our National Team program in communities that have not seen the product before.”
The Pan Am Games women’s baseball competition will open on July 20th when Canada takes on Cuba at 7pm ET. The gold medal contest will take place on July 26th.
