2015 Pan Am Games to include women’s baseball

OTTAWA-Canada will be the defending gold medalists in men’s baseball when the 2015 Pan Am Games get underway two summers from now in Toronto, and for the first time in games history, our Women’s National Team will have a chance to compete for a medal as women’s baseball has been added to the sports program.

The decision to include women’s baseball was approved last week in Jamaica as Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO) held their Extraordinary General Assembly.

“Competing in the Pan Am Games will be a career highlight for players and coaches,” said Women’s National Team Head Coach André Lachance. “This news is very exciting for women’s baseball and we look forward to showing our skill and the high level in which we play the game at a big event like the Pan Am Games.”

Women’s baseball will be a 5 team event, while the men’s tournament will see 7 teams compete for a gold medal.

At the 2011 Pan Am Games in Mexico, Canada achieved its best result at a major international baseball competition as the team, led by Manager Ernie Whitt defeated the United States 2-1 to win the gold medal.

The 2015 Pan Am Games are scheduled for July 10th-26th, 2015 in Toronto. Nearby Ajax will play host to both the men’s and women’s baseball events at a newly constructed complex.
