Lawrie Officially a Blue Jay

OTTAWA- Brett Lawrie (Langley, BC) is now a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. The former Junior National Team star and also a member of the 2008 Olympic team and the 2009 World Baseball Classic club was dealt by the Milwaukee Brewers to the Jays for RHP Shaun Marcum.

Lawrie, the highest drafted Canadian position player ever (1st round, 16th overall in 2008), spent the 2010 season playing for Double-A Huntsville in the Brewers organization where he hit .285 with 36 doubles, 16 triples, eight home runs and 63 RBI in 135 games. He was also Southern League Post-Season All Star and participated in the Futures Game for the second time in as many seasons.

Lawrie burst on to the international baseball scene as 16 year-old in 2006 where he was named an All-Star outfielder at the World Junior Championships in Cuba in helping Canada to a Bronze Medal. His most recent international experience was as member of the 2009 Bronze Medal winning World Cup team in Europe.
