Bantams: Weather Once Again A Factor to Begin Day 2

Ottawa, ON – Mother Nature made another appearance today, except this time it was Bedford, Nova Scotia, receiving all the rain while Vaughan, Ontario, had all of the sun. 

On the field, there were plenty of great matchups that included a nail-biting finish in 15U boys game.   

 

15U Bantam Boys

Prince Edward Island 8  Saskatchewan 7

Matt Barlow (Summerside, PE) capped off a 3/3 game by driving in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to narrowly escape past Saskatchewan.  PEI had built up a 7-0 lead, but Saskatchewan slowly clawed their way back to tie it in the top half until Barlow singled in the bottom half.  Josh Ponto (Saskatoon, SK) drove in two runs in the tough loss.  

New Brunswick 9  Manitoba 5

Jeremy Steeves drove in two runs as New Brunswick cruised to the victory over Manitoba.  Jess Malone (Memracok, NB) started the game on the mound and threw five solid innings to pick up the victory, and he also walked in his only plate appearance.  Morgan Geekie (Strathclair, MB) had two hits and two runs scored for Mantitoba, 

Nova Scotia 10  Newfoundland and Labrador 6

Nova Scotia would score one run in the first, two in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth en route to a 10-6 win over Newfoundland and Labrador.  Noah Trider (Dartmouth, NS) and Ryan O’Toole (Bridgewater, NS) combined for three hits and five BRI in the contest to lead the offense, while while James Locke (Torbay, NL) drove in two runs for his team. 

Vaughan 4  British Columbia 3

BC was cruising along all game until Vaughan stormed back with four unanswered runs to stun BC 4-3.  Christian Catenacci capped off the amazing comeback with the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh that scored Robert Cristofaro.  Raymon Singh came on to pitch the final two innings to pick up the victory for the host team, whose fans were treat to one entertaining baseball game. 

Ontario 11  Québec 1

Ontario scored at least one run in every inning to defeat their provincial rivals in Québec in five innings.  Andrew Yerzy (North York, ON) was a catalyst offensively with two hits and three RBI while Luke Van Rycheghem (Kent Bridge, ON) also contributed with two extra base hits, two RBI and two runs scored. 

 

16U Girls Invitational

Newfoundland and Labrador 10  Manitoba 8

Victoria Curran’s (Mount Pearl, NL)  two-run single in the top of the first inning opened the floodgates and Newfoundland never looked back to hold on for the 10-8 victory.  The game turned out to be close as Manitoba never gave up, scoring three runs in their last at-bat, but it wasn’t enough.  Sophie Bissonnette (Winnipeg, MB) had three RBI in the defeat. 

British Columbia 6  Alberta 4

BC would go on to score five straight runs to overcome a three run deficit to defeat Alberta 6-4.  Claire Eccles (White Rock, BC) proved to be a difference maker in the game, going 3/3 with two runs scored.  Kelsey Lalor (Red Deer, AB) had an outstanding game for her team with three hits and three RBI.  

Nova Scotia 8  Ontario 6

Nova Scotia used a combination of consistent offense and clutch pitching to hold off Ontario by a score of 8-6.  Teneal Perry (Halifax, NS) was the go-to weapon offensively, as she had two hits and two RBI, while Samantha Shupe (New Waterford, NS) was relied upon when need with nine strikeouts over five and two-thirds innings pitched.  Jenna Hillman (Tecumseh, ON) had three RBI in the loss.
