Baseball Canada announces Women’s National Team

OTTAWA-Baseball Canada announced today the twenty players that will represent Canada at the IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup in Edmonton August 10th-19th.

The team was first announced in Spruce Grove, AB at the conclusion of the Senior Women Invitational gold medal game where Ontario defeated BC by a score of 11-0.

“The coaching staff is very pleased with the make-up of our roster,” said National Team Manager André Lachance. “The fact that we have many players with World Cup experience combined with some talented newcomers will bode well for our team in Edmonton.”

The roster is headlined by Ashley Stephenson (Mississauga, ON) and Kate Psota (Burlington, ON) who will each be playing in their fifth World Cup as they are original members of the first Women’s National Team back in 2004.

The coaching staff is led by Manager André Lachance (Ottawa, ON) who returns for his fifth consecutive World Cup along with long-time Pitching Coach Jean-Francois Lacroix (Montréal, QC). Coach Sean O’Brien (Barrie, ON) along with former National Team players turned coaches Patricia Landry (St-Étiene-des-Grés, QC) and Samantha Magalas (Burlington, ON) will all be coaching in their first World Cup.

Team Canada will hold daily practices in St. Albert, AB beginning July 30th before kicking-off a six-game exhibition series on August 2nd where they will play local Alberta Midget teams.

On August 10th at TELUS Field in Edmonton, Team Canada will open the World Cup against Chinese Taipei at 8:30pm local time.
