Blue Jays, Swanson and World Baseball Challenge among finalists for CSTA Prestige Awards

OTTAWA-The Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance announced the finalists for the 2011 Prestige Awards today and there is a distinct baseball flavour among nominees.

The 2011 World Baseball Challenge is a finalist for International Sport Event of the Year after hosting a successful event last July. The tournament held in Prince George, BC drew teams from Cuba, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Bahamas, China and host Canada.

Other nominees for the award include the Ford World Men’s Curling Championship held in Regina and ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals that took place in Québec City.

Jim Swanson, a Prince George native, is a finalist for the Community Service Award in recognition for the work he did as Chair of the World Baseball Challenge.

The Toronto Blue Jays are one of three finalists for the Sport Event Sponsor of the Year Award as a result of their support to the World Baseball Challenge.

Finalists for all awards will be recognized at a luncheon on April 19th in Richmond, BC prior to the recipients being announced.
