Blue Jays to host ‘Girls Night at Bond Park’

OTTAWA-The Toronto Blue Jays will be hosting ‘Girls Night at Pond Park’ on July 13th as part of their Blue Jays Instructional Clinic schedule.

Women’s National Team player Autumn Mills (London, ON) will be on hand as lead instructor and she will be joined by teammates Ashley Stephenson (Mississauga, ON) and Samantha Magalas (Burlington, ON).

“This is something Ashley, Samantha and I are extremely excited about as many people are unaware that women’s baseball even exists,” said Mills. “Baseball has been a big factor in creating the individual I am today, providing me with the opportunity to develop transferrable life skills such as leadership, team work and dedication as well as once in a lifetime opportunities around the world.

“We could not be more thrilled to have the opportunity to share these experiences with young girls and encourage them to get and stay involved!”

The clinic on July 13th will take place at Bond Park (Located at Leslie St. and Highway 401) beginning at 6pm and is open to girls of all ages and skill abilities.

The clinics usually run four hours in length and include five teaching points; base running, throwing, hitting along with outfield and infield work. The clinic focuses on the fundamentals and provides an opportunity for coaches to get involved and learn specific drills/techniques in order to better assist their players.

“The hope is that with this clinic we can begin to increase awareness surrounding the opportunities available to young female baseball players,” explained Mills. “At the clinic, Ashley, Samantha and I will have a brief presentation for the girls to share some of our experiences with baseball, and provide some insight regarding what the future has to offer for them.”

All participants will receive a Blue Jays hat and t-shirt along with four hours of instruction.
