British Columbia Strikes Gold at 2025 Canada Summer Games

The 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s delivered an electric atmosphere throughout the baseball competition, with packed stands and a week of high-energy matchups showcasing some of the nation’s best young talent.

Gold Medal Game

In a thrilling championship final, British Columbia edged Québec 3–2 to capture the 2025 Canada Summer Games baseball title.

BC opened the scoring in the second inning when Matthew McAdam (North Vancouver, BC) and Oscar Leah (Maple Ridge, BC) delivered back-to-back hits before Kadyn Armitage (Surrey, BC) added a sacrifice fly. Leah extended the lead with one of the game’s biggest moments, a solo home run in the fourth.

Québec answered in the middle innings with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning, including an RBI groundout from Raphael Besançon (Boucherville, QC) and a run-scoring single from Maxime Lamarre (Terrebonne, QC). Reliever Cole Dorland (Langley, BC) held the line with three shutout innings and four strikeouts to protect the one-run lead.

Both sides played tight defense down the stretch, but British Columbia held off Québec’s late push to secure gold. Québec leaves St. John’s with a well-earned silver medal after an outstanding tournament and a spirited effort in the final.

British Columbia’s victory marks its fifth gold medal in Canada Summer Games history and first since 2013 in Sherbrooke, QC. For Québec, the silver is its third all-time and first since 1997 in Brandon, MB. After neither province reached the podium in 2022, their return to the top two this year highlights an impressive resurgence on the national stage.

Bronze Medal Game

Saskatchewan rallied from an early deficit to defeat Prince Edward Island 4–2 and claim the bronze medal.

PEI struck quickly in the opening frame with three hits, including back-to-back RBI doubles from Callum Thomson (Belfast, PEI) and Alex Curran (Stratford, PEI), to take a 2–0 lead. Saskatchewan responded in the second and third innings, capitalizing on defensive miscues to score four unanswered runs and take control.

From there, Saskatchewan’s pitching and defense carried the way. Mitchell Rauckman (Saskatoon, SK) tossed a complete game, holding PEI scoreless over the final six innings while his defense tightened behind him.

With the win, Saskatchewan earned back-to-back bronze medals at the Canada Summer Games, following their third-place finish in 2022. It is the province’s third bronze medal in event history.
