Hamilton, Carter, Baba appear on Top 100 list

OTTAWA-Toronto Sun Sportswriter, Bob Elliott released his annual list of the Top 100 ‘Most Influential Canadians in Baseball’ list and once again many names with ties to Baseball Canada made the cut.

Coach and Director of National Teams Greg Hamilton, took his familiar spot in the Top 10 coming in at #7 a year after finishing #3.

Hamilton was noted for putting together the Canadian roster for the World Baseball Classic that came within five outs of knocking off the heavily favoured United States last March. He was also praised for his work as coach of the Junior National Team program that had 17 current of former players selected last June’s MLB Draft.

Elliott named Toronto Blue Jays fans as #1 on the list with Cincinnati Reds slugger Joey Votto and Blue Jays President Paul Beeston rounding out the top three.

Baseball Canada President Ray Carter moved up two spots on the list to #38, while Director General Jim Baba came in at #57.

Baseball Canada’s André Lachance (Manager of Baseball Operations) and Jason Dickson (Vice-President) received honourable mentions.

Many among the Top 100 have ties to Baseball Canada either as players, coaches and/or administrative roles.
