Hill signs with Blue Jays

OTTAWA – National Team alumnus Shawn Hill has signed a minor league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, with an invite to Major League spring training.

The Georgetown, Ontario native made three starts for the San Diego Padres in 2009 before undergoing Tommy John surgery, going 1-1 with a 5.25 ERA. The right hander made his Major League debut in 2004 with the Montreal Expos. Hill played for the Expos/Washington Nationals organization from 2004-2008.

Hill was a member of the 2004 Canadian Olympic Team in Athens where he was 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA in two starts. He was also on the provisional roster for Team Canada at the 2006 World Baseball Classic but was unable to play due to injury.
