JNT EXTENDED SPRING: Nationals outlast juniors

WEST PALM BEACH, FL--- The Junior National Team went toe-to-toe with a prospects squad from the Washington Nationals’ organization in the hit department but fell short on the scoreboard coming up on the short end of a 13-2 result.

The Nats took advantage of ten walks, three hit batters and five JNT errors while using ten hits to score thirteen runs.

Offensively, the Junior National Team managed nine hits including two apiece from Dasan Brown (Oakville, ON) and Micah McDowell (Coldbrook, NS).

GAME BREAKDOWN

-The juniors opened the scoring in the top of the third as TJ Schofield-Sam (Brampton, ON) singled to right field with the bases loaded to score Eric Martin (Kitchener, ON) before Ryan Leitch (Whitby, ON) drove home Dasan Brown when he grounded into a double play.

-Starting pitcher Keegan Pulford-Thorpe (Newmarket, ON) kept the Nats off the scoreboard through two innings but that changed in the third when they used three hits, two walks and took advantage of two errors to put six runs on the scoreboard.

-The Nats kept coming in the fourth, and reliever Ryan Scott (Quispamsis, NB) on the mound who allowed a lead off walk and single before retiring two batters, but back-to-back singles plated two more runs.

-A lead off triple in the fifth followed by an RBI single, and a hit batter with the bases loaded put the Nats up, 11-2, in the fifth.

-The Nats rounded out their scoring in the seventh using a sac-fly and RBI double off reliever Justin Thorsteinson (Langley, BC).

UP NEXT

The juniors will continue their extended spring training schedule tomorrow with a match-up against a prospects squad from the Houston Astros’ organization with the first pitch set for 2:15 PM ET…RHP Theo Millas (Burnaby, BC), LHP Connor O’Halloran (Mississauga, ON) and RHP Jack Seward (Port Moody, BC) are all expected to see action on the mound.
