JUAN DOLIO, D.R. - The Junior National Team is back in action for the Dominican Professional Academy Camp from May 15-23 where they will face off with eleven different MLB professional academies in the Dominican Republic.
The nine-day camp will feature five single game days and four double headers, including games against the Phillies, Marlins, Pirates, Padres, Cubs, Giants, Cardinals, Brewers, Reds, and Blue Jays Dominican Summer League squads.
Junior National Team 9-7 Cincinnati Reds DSL
The Junior National Team took the early lead and never looked back as they earned their fourth win of the camp defeating the Cincinnati Reds DSL 9-7 in an eighth inning ballgame. The Canadians scored nine runs on nine hits while playing perfect defence behind the pitching staff.
Myles Naylor (Mississauga, ON) got the Juniors on the board right away in the top of the first smashing a two-run homer to give the Juniors a 2-0 lead. Naylor would finish his day 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs.
Owen Slater (Whitby, ON) and Josiah Romeo (Caledon, ON) both pitched two innings and allowed a pair of runs on five and two hits respectively. Hudson White (St. John’s, NL) also threw a couple of innings in relief, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out three.
Brayden Ricketts (Brampton, ON) contributed to the Junior’s big offensive day smashing a home run of his own and finishing the day 2-for-3, driving in and scoring a pair. Jorge Valdes (Milton, ON) had a perfect day at the plate, reaching base in all four of his plate appearances, finishing the day 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored.
Cam Macleod (North Vancouver, BC) also collected a hit in four at bats, driving in two and scoring one for the Canadians at the bottom of the lineup. Simon Baker (Cochrane, AB) also had a good day at the dish scoring a run over his 1-for-2 performance.
The Juniors finish the Dominican Professional Academy Camp 4-3-5. Once more, the camp delivered an outstanding opportunity for the Junior National Team to grow and compete while immersing themselves in Dominican baseball culture.
Junior National Team 2-2 Milwaukee Brewers DSL
The Junior National Team battled to a 2-2 tie against the Milwaukee Brewers DSL on the second game of the doubleheader. The Juniors scored a pair of runs on three hits and committed no errors.
Ryan Press (Toronto, ON) toed the rubber for the Canadians, allowing a run on one hit and striking out two over his two and two third innings of work.
Calvin Warrillow (Toronto, ON) got the Juniors on the board in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI double that cut the Brewers lead in half at the time. Jorge Valdes (Milton, ON) was a spark at the top of the lineup finishing his day with a perfect 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and scoring the tying run in the seventh.
Owen Fernandes (Maple Ridge, BC) pitched three innings in relief, allowing a run on four hits while striking out three. Tate Carey (Windsor, ON) cruised through the last three frames of the ballgame allowing no runs and no hits while striking out five to close out the game.
Junior National Team 3-3 St. Louis Cardinals DSL
The Junior National Team tied 3-3 with the St. Louis Cardinals DSL on the first game of double header action on Monday. The game was a competitive back and forth battle between the two clubs. The Canadians scored three runs on seven hits playing perfect defense behind their pitching staff.
Sam Maclaughlin (Toronto, ON) was the starter on the mound for the Juniors, allowing a run on four hits while striking out five over his two and two third innings of work. Makaio Cisneros (Whitby, ON) was the first arm out of the bullpen, cruising through the middle innings also permitting a run on only one hit while striking out six.
Benito Bonilla (Halifax, NS) got the Juniors on the board on the top of the third inning with an RBI single that scored Jorge Valdes (Milton, ON) after he had singled earlier in the inning. Simon Baker (Cochrane, AB) also picked up an RBI over his 1-for-3 performance at the dish.
Brendan Lawson (North York, ON) was also key part of the offensive effort by the Canadians, finishing his day 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Sean Duncan (Langley, BC) worked the last three frames of the game, allowing a run on three hits and striking out four, to close out the ballgame.
Junior National Team 0-6 Toronto Blue Jays DSL
The Toronto Blue Jays DSL defeated the Junior National Team 6-0 on Sunday as five Jays pitchers combine for the shutout against the Canadians. The Juniors collected four hits and left six runners on base as they fail to get the big hit to get them on the board.
Jacob Wallace (Pincourt, QC) started the game on the mound for the Junior National Team. The right hander threw three scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and a walk while striking out five.
Michael Yusypchuk (Edmonton, AB) worked three innings in relief limiting the damage to a pair of runs despite giving up six hits.
Matt Evans (Tillsongburg, ON) had himself a day at the plate, collecting two of the four Junior hits over his 2-for-3 performance. Marek Lalonde (Valleyfield, QC) and Calvin Warrillow (Toronto, ON) picked up the other two hits for the JNT, as they both finish their day 1-for-3.
Junior National Team 3-2 San Francisco Giants DSL
The Junior National earned a victory over the San Francisco Giants DSL squad 3-2 in a short five inning game due to the weather. The Juniors scored three runs on four hits behind a strong outing from the Canadian pitching staff.
Elliot Cadieux Lanoue (St. Pie, QC) was the starter on the mound for the Junior National Team and permitted no hits and no earned runs and struck out one over his three innings of work. Nick Frers (North Vancouver, BC) threw an inning and two thirds in relief and allowed one run on two hits, also striking out a batter before the weather shortened the game.
Brendan Lawson (North York, ON) powered the offence with a 2-for-2 performance at the bottom of the lineup. Deiten Lachance (Sherbrooke, QC) continued to swing a hot bat in the camp, collecting an RBI double over his 1-for-2 day at the plate. Cardel Dick (Abbotsford, BC) picked up the only other hit for the Juniors on this one, as he finished his day with a 1-for-2 performance at the dish.
Junior National Team 3-4 Philadelphia Phillies DSL
The Junior National Team fell just short of a comeback in a 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies DSL squad. The Canadians battled back scoring three runs in the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead at the time. The Phillies DSL would respond with three runs of their own in the bottom half to secure the victory.
Hudson White (St. John’s, NL) provided the Junior National Team with a strong start on the mound, working four innings off no earned runs and allowing only a pair of hits while striking out two batters.
The big blow for the Canadians came via a Myles Naylor (Mississauga, ON) 3-Run homer in the sixth. Naylor would finish the day 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
BJ Peart (Markham, ON) had a perfect 1-for-1 day at the plate smashing a double and collecting a pair of walks.
Will Hynes (Mississauga, ON) worked three and a third innings in relief permitting only a pair of hits and striking out three.
Junior National Team 3-6 Boston Red Sox DSL
The Junior National Team drops the second game of the double header 6-3 against the Boston Red Sox DSL squad. The Juniors scored three runs on seven hits as they couldn’t keep their opponents at bay in the late innings.
Starter Owen Slater (Whitby, ON) was dominant over five innings giving up only a pair of hits and striking out four. The Canadians got on the board first in support of Slater, thanks to a BJ Peart (Markham, ON) RBI double in the top of the second inning.
The Juniors would make a push for the comeback in the late innings after Matt Evans (Tillsonburg, ON) bunt single sparked a rally that was capped with a Myles Naylor (Mississauga, ON) 2-RBI single. Both Naylor and Evans would finish their day 1-for-3 at the plate.
Marek Lalonde (Valleyfield, QC) also had a notable performance at the dish, collecting a pair of hits over his four at bats in the middle of the lineup for the Junior National Team.
Junior National Team 9-5 Pittsburgh Pirates DSL
The Junior National Team locked in their second win of the Dominican Professional Academy Camp with a 9-5 victory over the Pirates DSL. The Canadians picked up eight hits and scored nine runs against the Pirates pitching staff.
Ryan Press (Toronto, ON) provided the Juniors with a strong start on the mound, working four innings allowing only one earned run on three hits while striking out six batters.
The Juniors had a big five-run second inning capped by a Benito Bonilla (Halifax, NS) 2-run single, finishing his day with a pair of hits in five at bats and scoring a run. Brendan Lawson (North York, ON) also had a clutch 2-run single in the top of the seventh to extend the Juniors lead in the late innings.
Tate Carey (Windsor, ON) took care of the middle innings working three and two thirds allowing only two earned runs and striking out six, despite giving up seven hits. Owen Fernandes (Maple Ridge, ON) closed out the game for the Canadians with a scoreless bottom of the ninth permitting only a walk and locking in the win.
Junior National Team 2-6 San Diego Padres DSL
The Junior National Team fought back after falling behind by three runs but ended up on the wrong end of a 6-2 ballgame. The Canadians scored two runs on two hits as they couldn’t complete the comeback against the Padres DSL.
Sam Maclaughlin (Toronto, ON) had a dominant start in his Junior National Team debut working four innings allowing only one earned run on one hit while striking out six.
Deiten Lachance (Sherbrooke, QC) collected the only two hits for the Junior National Team with a single and a 2-run double over his three at bats. Makaio Cisneros (Whitby, ON) worked through the middle innings of this one allowing three runs on three hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
Junior National Team 2-3 Pittsburgh Pirates DSL
The Junior National Team dropped their second game of the double header against the Pirates DSL squad, 3-2. The Juniors scored two runs on three hits in the eight-inning ballgame.
RHP Jacob Wallace (Pincourt, QC) was dominant in his start allowing only a hit and striking out four over four innings of work.
The Junior National Team scored a pair of runs after a Marek Lalonde (Valleyfield, QC) fielder’s choice led to a miscue by the Pirates. Simon Baker (Cochrane, AB) had himself a good day at the plate adding 1-for-2 performance to his strong showing in game one.
Deiten Lachance (Sherbrooke, QC) and B.J. Peart (Markham, ON) collected the two other hits for the Juniors, both finishing the day with a hit on three plate appearances.
Benito Bonilla (Halifax, NS) held the Pirates DSL in check in the last inning of play striking out one in a scoreless frame.
Junior National Team 6-4 Miami Marlins DSL
The Junior National Team defeated the Miami Marlins DSL squad 6-4 in the first game of double-header action. The Canadians scored six runs on seven hits, including a big four-run seventh inning that propelled them to the win.
Elliot Cadieux Lanoue (St-Pie, QC) was the starter on the mound for the Junior National Team allowing only a pair of hits and a pair of walks while striking out five over his four innings of work. Nick Frers (North Vancouver, BC) came in for the long relief appearance and worked four and two thirds innings, permitting three runs on six hits and striking out three.
Jorge Valdes (Milton, ON) and Myles Naylor (Mississauga, ON) sparked the Junior National Team’s offence at the top of the lineup both collecting a hit and a pair of RBI’s in four plate appearances. Matt Evans (Tillsonburg, ON) also had a good day at the plate finishing his day with a 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Simon Baker (Cochrane, AB) scored a couple of runs for the Juniors also finishing his day with a 1-for-3.
Junior National Team 1-1 Philadelphia Phillies DSL
The Junior National Team tied the Phillies DSL squad on the first game of the Dominican Professional Academy Camp 1-1. Both teams scored their only run of the game in the first inning as both pitching staffs kept each other at bay for the remainder eight innings of play.
The big offensive blow for the Juniors came off the bat of Deiten Lachance (Sherbrooke, QC) who doubled in the first inning, driving in Myles Naylor (Mississauga, ON) for the only run scored by the Canadians.
Sean Duncan (Port Coquitlam, BC) got the start on the mound for the Junior National Team and set the tone for the rest of the staff with four solid innings of one earned run on two hits while striking out four.
Michael Yusypchuk (Edmonton, AB) took care of the middle innings cruising through the next four innings, allowing only a hit while striking out three. Owen Fernandes (Maple Ridge, BC) closed out the game for the Juniors with a perfect one, two, three ninth inning striking out the last two batters of the game.
