Moncton and District Minor Baseball Association Now RBI Approved

OTTAWA- Baseball Canada would like to announce that the Moncton and District Minor Baseball Association has become the ninth association to become RBI approved since Baseball Canada introduced the RBI Program in 2008. The association also becomes the first to be RBI approved in New Brunswick and the first amongst the Atlantic Provinces.

“We’re now moving forward in the right direction,” said Paul ‘Tubby” Melanson, the President of the Moncton and District Minor Baseball Association.

Mr. Melanson points to the success of the Rally Cap Program as having a major influence on his association becoming RBI approved.

“We implemented Rally Cap seven years ago and we’ve got nothing but positive results from the program.”

Participation numbers were on a decline in the association and kids were choosing other sports to play during the summer. This all changed once Rally Cap was introduced.

“The kids are staying in the sport and moving on to the Rookie and Peewee divisions,” explained Melanson.

Baseball Canada’s Program Coordinator Kelsey McIntosh expects that the number of RBI approved associations across Canada and specifically in Atlantic Canada will increase in the near future.

“A lot of associations know the merits of the program and we are experiencing success to this point.  We anticipate even greater success once more associations adopt the criteria, including pitch count and the Rally Cap Program.”
