O’Neill, Pivetta, Seabrooke, Collymore selected on day two of MLB Draft

TORONTO- Tyler O’Neill (Maple Ridge, BC) became the first member of the Junior National Team taken in the 2013 MLB Draft when the Seattle Mariners took him in the third round, 85th overall.

O’Neill, drafted as a right-fielder, became the second Canadian taken in this year’s draft and the highest drafted member of the Junior National Team since 2010 when the Texas Rangers took catcher Kellin Deglan (Langley, BC) in the first round, 22nd overall.

Junior National Team graduate Nick Pivetta (Victoria, BC) was the next Canadian chosen as the Washington Nationals used their fourth round selection, 136th overall, to take the right-handed pitcher out of New Mexico Junior College.

Pivetta played on the 2010 JNT that finished fourth at the 2010 IBAF 18U World Championship where he earned a save in a victory over South Korea.

A member of the silver-medal winning 2012 JNT at the IBAF 18U World Championship in Seoul, Korea, Travis Seabrooke (Peterborough, ON), was next to go as the Baltimore Orioles took the left-hander in the fifth round, 159th overall.

In 10th and final round of day two, the St. Louis Cardinals selected shortstop Malik Collymore (Mississauga, ON) with the 305th pick of the draft.

A total of five Canadian have now been selected in the 2013 MLB Draft with Rounds 11-40 still to go tomorrow beginning at 1pm ET.
