ST. JOHN’S, NL – The debut of women’s baseball at the 2025 Canada Summer Games delivered an unforgettable week in St. John’s, where outstanding play on the field was matched by incredible support in the stands. As the sport made its historic first appearance at the Games, the competition did not disappoint, showcasing the depth of talent and passion for women’s baseball across the country.
Gold Medal Game
Ontario captured history in St. John’s, earning the first-ever women’s baseball gold medal at the Canada Games with an 8–5 victory over Alberta. Ontario opened the scoring in the first inning and broke things open with a five-run fourth, sparked by clutch hits from Zoe McGregor (Oshawa, ON), Sophia Horton-Moulton (Simcoe, ON), and Olivia Westfall (Etobicoke, ON).
Alberta clawed back in the fifth as Kamryn Kutzner (Okotoks, AB) launched a two-run homer to trim the deficit, but Ontario’s offense answered again in the seventh to keep the pressure on.
Starter Jadyn Sagert (Bradford, ON) carried the load on the mound, striking out seven in a gritty effort to seal the win and secure the historic gold.
Alberta’s strong showing throughout the week culminated in a well-earned silver medal, highlighted by timely hitting and resilience that made for a thrilling championship final.
Bronze Medal Game
British Columbia struck early and never looked back, defeating Nova Scotia 10–1 to claim the first ever bronze medal at Canada Summer Games.
BC jumped ahead in the opening frame with two runs off a double by Layla Spencer (Kamloops, BC), then broke the game open with a six-run third inning highlighted by RBI knocks from Olivia Roos (Vancouver, BC) and Jessica Slater (Nanaimo, BC).
Roos later added a triple and double as part of a strong day at the plate, while pitcher Logan Grant (Langford, BC) set the tone with three shutout innings and five strikeouts.
