Ottawa, Ontario – Team Ontario reigned supreme, claiming the 18U (Midget) Championship in decisive fashion. They earned their way to the final and their hard work paid off with the medals they now get to bring home.

Gold Medal Game
Ontario 6 Alberta 1
Team Ontario had their hiccups throughout the tournament as indicated by their two losses, but the team grew together and stepped up when necessary leading to a Midget Championship. Andrew Fletcher (London, ON) stepped up in a huge way by throwing all seven innings, allowing only two hits and inducing outs all over the diamond.
After getting down 1-0 early, Chris Cochrane (London, ON) and Preston Carr (St. Thomas, ON) would provide the clutch hitting by combining to drive in five of the team’s six runs. Andrew Warner (London, ON) had the other RBI as Ontario secured a trip to the finals later in the evening.
After losing in the final one year ago, this was sweet revenge for Ontario. Now they are going home as champions.
Bronze Medal Game
Trois-Riviéres 9 Saskatchewan 6
After a tough semi-final loss, the hosts came out only hours later and defeated Saskatchewan to keep the bronze medal on home soil. The top and middle of the order supplied all of Trois-Riviéres offense, led by one RBI each from the first five hitters in the lineup. Derek Philibert would pitch the final three innings to pick up the victory.
The team gave their fans something to cheer about, and they all went home happy knowing that their team would stand on the podium.
Semi-final #1
Alberta 4 Saskatchewan 0
Austin Ely (Calgary, AB) went the distance as Alberta was the first team to clinch a birth in the finals. Ely was helped out by offensive catalyst Justin King (Okotoks, AB) who finished with three hits, two runs scored, and one RBI in the win. He wound also wind up coming a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.
Semi-Final #2
Ontario 3 Trois-Riviéres 0
Just like the previous semi-final, Ontario starter Kyle Zimmer (London, ON) pitched all seven innings and gave up only three hits to send his team to a finals match with vs. Alberta. The game was a pitchers’ duel through six innings, but Ontario would score three runs in the seventh that was kick-started by Andrew Warner’s (London, ON) two-run double.
