Quebec’s Tanya Millette to attend Professional Umpire School

Baseball Canada umpire Tanya Millette has professional baseball umpiring aspirations and will attend the prestigious Wendelstedt Umpire School in Florida early in 2022 after receiving news from Major League Baseball’s Umpire Program that she’s set to receive a bursary to attend.

The announcement came via Baseball Québec where Millette is a member of their High-Performance Umpire Program.

Before Covid-19 brought the world to a halt, Millette was one of 12 women and three Québecers to attend an Umpire Development Camp sponsored by MLB. The knowledge base built from that event along with the experience gained set Millette on a path to where she will now attend the Wendelstedt school.

“When I heard the news, I was so excited,” said Millette in a statement released by Baseball Québec. “Since the (development) camp in 2019, my hope was to get this scholarship.

“I can't wait to be there and show the potential I have as an umpire. I’m grateful to all the (umpire) supervisors and colleagues that I have worked with in my career!”

Millette has over 10 years of umpiring experience with Baseball Québec working her way to where she currently works games in the Junior Elite League (LBJEQ) and in 2020 became the first female to work games in the Québec Major Baseball League (LBMQ). She has also umpired at numerous National and Provincial championships.
