Baseball Canada recognizes Rally Cap national prize winner

OTTAWA-Baseball Canada would like to recognize Liam from Ontario as the 2013 recipient of the Rally Cap national prize. Liam was randomly selected out of numerous submissions from the Rally Cap Player of the Week draw that took place throughout the summer.

As part of Liam’s prize he travelled to Toronto last weekend along with his family to take in a Blue Jays game.

To make the weekend even more special was the fact that Liam got to attend his first ever Blue Jays game and did so with his family coming along.

“With two of our kids (Sinead and Justin) living out of town, it was an excellent opportunity to have the entire family gather to share in Liam’s very first Blue Jays game,” said Liam’s Father, Michael.

The Blue Jays earned a win over the Tampa Bay Rays which included a 2-for3 day at the plate by Liam’s favourtite player, Canadian Brett Lawrie.

Lawrie has proved himself at being one of the top defenders at his position in the American League and his style of play has rubbed off on young Liam.

“Liam enjoys hitting most of all, but fielding the ball seems to come to him naturally,” says dad, Michael. “Perhaps it’s his favorite player, Brett Lawrie that has encouraged him as he loves diving for balls and getting dirty.”

Liam really enjoyed participating in the Rally Cap program this season and wants to play baseball indoors in the winter since he enjoys the game so much.

Although his favourite thing to do is hitting, Liam also enjoys playing first base and pitcher where he is part of the ‘action’.

“Rally Cap is a tremendous program that provides guidelines and challenges Liam to become a better player,” explained Michael. “Liam graduated from a white hat to a grey hat in his first evaluation and is extremely motivated to improve to achieve the next colour.”
