Canadian Juniors Falls to Chinese Taipei in Joplin

Chinese Taipei took the lead early and never relinquished it as they would defeat the Junior National Team by a score of 6-1 in a seven inning ball game in Joplin, Missouri for the USA Exhibition Series.

The Junior’s lone run of the ball game came in the fifth inning when Marcus Knecht of Toronto, Ontario drove in Leslie Williams of Scarborough, Ontario which completed the game’s scoring.

Chinese Taipei jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning, three runs in the second inning and one in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead.  Ming Jen Hsieh led the offence for Taipei going 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Cameron Gray of Toronto, Ontario lasted two innings on the mound, giving up all six runs on eight hits with two walks.  Nick Fogarty followed Gray in relief and pitched four shutout innings, allowing only one hit with one walk and one strikeout.

Defensively for the Canadians, Leslie Williams started a triple play with a wonderful diving catch, then throwing over to the first baseman Brett Sanders of Etobicoke, Ontario for the second out, who then threw over to second base to complete the play.

The Junior National Team will attempt to get their revenge on Friday as their next game is against the same Chinese Taipei team.  Game time is scheduled for 4 pm in Joplin.
