Carter Beck First Canadian Selected in 2026 MLB Draft

OTTAWA, ON – Baseball Canada congratulates Carter Beck of Carnduff, Saskatchewan, who became the first Canadian selected in the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft when the Atlanta Braves used the 26th overall selection to choose the Indiana State University outfielder.

Beck enjoyed an outstanding junior season with the Sycamores, earning 2026 Joe Carter Player of the Year honours, First Team All-Conference recognition and a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference All-Defensive Team. He started all 57 games and hit .346 with 16 home runs, 17 doubles, 59 RBIs, 62 runs scored and 12 stolen bases.

Beck represented Team Saskatchewan at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, helping the province capture a bronze medal.

Before joining Indiana State, Beck played at the University of Mary, where he was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Freshman of the Year. He later developed into one of the top offensive players in the Missouri Valley Conference, recording back-to-back standout seasons with the Sycamores.

A pair of Junior National Team players went just three picks apart in the second round with shortstop Elliot Lascelles going to the Padres 63rd overall before the New York Yankees nabbed left-handed pitcher Sean Duncan with the 66th overall pick.

Lascelles and Duncan have been teammates with the Junior National Team since 2024 with both competing in training camps this spring.

Just last month during the Junior National Team’s tour through the MLB Draft League, Lascelles hit .395 with three extra-base hits and seven RBIs in just nine games played.
