Errors Cost Juniors, Fall to Astros

Errors and scoring runs early cost dearly for the juniors as they lost for the second time to the Houston Astros’ Extended Spring Training Team, this time by a final score of 10-2.

Chad Stang of Surrey, B.C. hit the first home run of the camp for the team in the fourth inning, scoring the two runs of the game for the juniors.

Three walks and three errors in the first two innings gave the Astros a 5-0 lead.  In total, the juniors committed six errors in the game.

The Astros would have a 9-0 cushion before Stang hit his home run to reduce the lead to 9-2, but the Astros would add another run in the fifth inning to round out the game’s scoring.

Along with Stang, Leslie Williams of Scarborough, Ontario was 1-for-3 with a run scored.  Corey Pappel of Mississauga, Ontario threw two innings, allowing one run on three hits with one walk and one strikeout.  Ryan Kennedy of Calgary, Alberta only allowed two hits in his two innings pitched and struck out a pair.

Next the juniors will do battle with the Extended Spring Training Team of the Detroit Tigers on Thursday at 1:00 pm.
