Female baseball to debut at 2025 Canada Games

OTTAWA – Baseball Canada is thrilled to announce that female baseball has been added to the Canada Games sport program and will make its debut at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The news was announced by the Canada Games Council earlier today.

“This is incredible news for Canadian baseball and most importantly the athletes that will have the opportunity to represent their province at the Canada Games beginning in 2025,” said Baseball Canada CEO Jason Dickson. “The addition of female baseball to a prestigious event like the Canada Games will certainly raise the profile of the sport, aid in the development and growth of female baseball and enhance the athlete experience of preparing for and competing in a major, multi-sport games.”

Baseball Canada’s ten member provinces have been working for years to provide opportunities for female players in their provinces to play at the local and provincial levels. The addition of female baseball at the Canada Games is a testament to the hard work of provincial executives, staff and local baseball volunteers.

“We take great pride in sharing of this news with our membership across the country,” added Dickson. “We’re fortunate as a national federation to have the support and commitment of many who have played a role in making this happen.”

Baseball Canada currently hosts three national championship events for women and girls at the 16U, 21U and Open categories. In 2019, the 16U Girls Invitational featured entries from all ten provinces for the first time ever with while eleven teams, including entries from all ten provinces took part in the same event last August.

From a Women’s National Team perspective, the addition of female baseball at the Canada Games will add an event that athletes can strive for on the development pathway towards national team identification.

More details about the 2025 Canada Games baseball competition will be provided at a later date.
