OTTAWA, ON – One day after Elliot Lascelles and Sean Duncan were selected in the opening rounds of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft, six more current or former members of Baseball Canada's Junior National Team program heard their names called on day two.
Leading the way was Deiten Lachance (2022 Junior National Team), who was selected by the Cleveland Guardians in the sixth round. The recent College World Series champion with the University of Oklahoma became the first Canadian selected on day two of the draft.
Four current members of the Junior National Team program followed, with Roberto Omidi going to the Detroit Tigers in the eighth round, Cole Dorland selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 13th round, Damarcus Rideout-Carter chosen by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 14th round, and Will Zielinski joining the Detroit Tigers in the 20th round.
Rounding out the Canadian selections with Junior National Team ties were Evan Morrison (Wheatley, Ont.), who was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 10th round out of Grand Valley State University, and Ryan Marton (Toronto, Ont.), who was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 17th round following his collegiate career at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
