Medal Round Booked for 13U and Senior Men

Ottawa, ON – In Spuce Grove, Alberta, British Columbia will put their undefeated record on the the line when they face Regina (SK2) in Sunday championship final.  In the Bronze medal game, host Spruce Grove will take on South Central (MB1).

In Windsor, Ontario, at the Senior Men’s championship, Ontario and British Columbia both finish with undefeated records while Windsor and Manitoba finish in third and fourth place respectively to clinch the last two semi-final openings.  It will Ontario vs. Windsor and BC vs. Manitoba to see who faces each other for Gold.

 

13U Peewee Western

British Columbia 15  South Central (MB1) 5

British Columbia pounded out sixteen hits and fifteen runs over only five innings to down South Central.  Jackson Hogg (Surrey, BC) and Damiano Palmegiani (Surrey, BC) combined for six hits, six RBI and five runs scored lead the BC offense while Palmegiani would also picked up the win on the mound.  BC will have to sharped up their defense if they want to win Sunday’s championship as they committed five errors in this game. 

Regina (SK2) 10  Spruce Grove 7

With the win Regina was able to set themselves up for a Gold medal match vs. British Columbia on Sunday.  In this game, they were able to capitalize off some Spruce Grove errors, which ended up being a difference maker.  Zane Pollon (Wilcox, SK) and Kendall Keller (Pilot Butte, SK) both picked up two RBI while Laron Smith drove in his eight and ninth runs of the tournament.

Senior Men

Ontario 7  Alberta 1

With the game close late, Ontario would pull away with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Alberta by a final score of 7-1.  Matt DeKundy (Mississauga, ON) continued his strong tournament with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored while Adam Paish (Mississauga, ON) threw five solid innings to pick up the win on the mound.  Lance Romanchuk (Sherwood Park, AB) had two hits for his team in the loss. 

British Columbia 10  Windsor 0

Three different BC players drove in two runs as the team cruised past Windsor 10-0 in six innings.  Shawn Shaefer (Pitt Meadows, BC) gave up only three hits over six innings to pick up the win.  Graig Merritt (Maple Ridge, BC) scored on three separate occasions in the win.

Manitoba 4  New Brunswick (2) 1 

Leadoff hitter Garrett Popplestone (Brandon, MB) had two hits and two RBI to guide Manitoba to the 4-1 victory over New Brunswick.  It was the team’s second win on the day, which helped them secure a birth in one of Sunday’s semi-final match-ups.  Cole Stober (Reston, MB) went the distance to earn the win. 

Windsor 3  Alberta (1) 2

Windsor won yet another extra inning game to advance to Sunday’s medal round when Tyler Plumpton’s (Peterborough, ON) game-winning single drove in Adam Ellwood (Windsor, ON).  Both starting pitchers in the game gave their maximum effort by pitching a full nine innings.
